Kid on a leash

Walking down John Street on my way back from lunch, I saw a strange kid-on-a-leash situation. The kid was a boy five or six years old; his leash was cutified to look like an animal backpack. His mom was pulling him one way, while he held onto the leash with both hands and was pulling the other way.
Ever see a dog do that??

That's called "taking the bit" when horses do it, so they can pull at the reins without it hurting their sensitive mouths (which is, after all, why the bit is in the horse's mouth in the first place).

No, I've never seen a dog grab the leash in his hands, but they do sometimes grab it in their mouths, for similar reason -- their necks are much more sensitive than their jaws.
